Impact
  • Intended outcomes: Crisis Text Line provides students with a free, confidential, non-judgmental outlet to talk about anything going on in their lives, including friendships, school stress, bullying, isolation, etc. Their volunteer Crisis Counselors are empathetic listeners who help texters identify coping strategies to get them to a calmer place. Each conversation is overseen in real-time by a staff Supervisor—a mental health professional who also handles any high-risk conversations or mandatory reporting when needed.
  • Demonstrated outcomes: Crisis Text Line has had over 10 million conversations with people in crisis since launching in 2013. About 70% of their texters self-identify as ages 24 and younger. About 85% of texters say they found their conversation helpful, and about 65% say they reached out because they had no one else to talk to. You can learn more here.
Privacy & Safety
  • Privacy & security: Learn more about Crisis Text Line’s privacy and security policies here.
  • Crisis protocols: Crisis Text Line follows their standard protocols for texters at imminent risk of seriously harming themselves or others. They are also mandated reporters. You can learn more here.
Data provided to school/district

After a co-branded text line has 200+ conversations, Crisis Text Line is able to share back high-level, anonymized, and aggregated insights into how a school community is using Crisis Text Line. These insights include: time and day people are reaching out, topics that come up in the conversations, and self-reported demographics.

Accessibility
  • Web accessibility: Contact Crisis Text Line with questions about accessibility.
  • Language accessibility: Crisis Text Line offers a fully acculturated Spanish service, which is answered by bilingual volunteer Crisis Counselors who are overseen by bilingual Supervisors.
